Saving for your retirement
We provide service for SMSF, such as Financial Statements and Tax Return for your fund.
Creation of Fund Financial Statement
- SMSFs must be audited each year and the auditor must be independent from both the fund and the accountant or administrator who prepares the financial statements.
- As trustee of your SMSF, you need to keep records that allow preparation of financial statements and annual tax and compliance returns. This information needs to be kept for at least five years after the end of the financial year, even after your SMSF has been wound up.
- Are you ready to prepare your own superannuation Financial Statement? Find out by booking an appointment with us, or you can send us an email.
Record Keeping for preparation of your funds financial statement
- You’ve been running your SMSF for a while and have amassed a lot of information about your fund. You know that your SMSF must keep some records, but which ones do you keep, how long for and where do you store them? Let’s see what you need to do.
- The Superannuation Industry (Supervision) Act 1994 (SIS Act) requires you to keep accounting records that:
- correctly record and explain the fund’s transactions and financial position,
- enable annual financial statements such as a Statement of Financial Position and Operating Statement to be prepared,
- and allow the preparation and lodgement of your SMSF’s annual income tax and compliance return to be lodged with the ATO.
There are some records your SMSF must keep for at least ten years which relate mainly to the underlying operation of the fund
- In simple terms, as trustee of your SMSF, you need to keep records that allow preparation of financial statements and annual tax and compliance returns. This information needs to be kept for at least five years after the end of the financial year, even after your SMSF has been wound up.
- Trustee resolutions and minutes of meeting. Change of trustee notices. Trustee declarations that acknowledge the obligations and responsibilities as trustee. Copies of a Trustee’s consent to be appointed as trustee of the SMSF. All reports provided to members such as an annual member statement. Decisions about the storage of ‘collectables and personal use assets.

Daniel Nguyen & Associates are highly qualified to conduct SMSF audits and annual tax returns.
An annual audit of your SMSF is compulsory requirement of the ATO
Why do an SMSF Audit?
- Each year, the SMSF Auditor must provide an SMSF audit report to the trustee by at least the day before the SMSF is required to lodge its SMSF Annual Return with the ATO. The trustee of every SMSF is required (by the ATO) to appoint an independent SMSF Auditor who will audit your Self-Managed Super Fund every year. An SMSF Auditor reviews your fund’s financial statements and ensures your fund complies with the many laws that govern SMSF management.
- It’s best to talk with your auditor (and provide your financial documents to them) about 60 days before your SMSF Annual Return is due, so there’s time to get the audit done and then to prepare your SMSF Tax Return before the due date. To arrange an SMSF Audit or just chat about your SMSF, feel free to give us a call. We have friendly, highly-qualified tax experts who are happy to talk with you. (No obligation, no strings attached.)
SMSF Audit
- By appointing Daniel Nguyen & Associates specialist SMSF Auditor to handle both your SMSF Audit and SMSF Annual Return, you’ll ensure your fund is not running against ATO regulations and not accumulating costly taxes or penalties.
- Anyone who runs a self-managed superannuation fund (SMSF) must ensure that a registered SMSF auditor audits the fund annually. An SMSF auditor examines the validity and accuracy of an SMSF's financial records and makes sure that the fund is compliant with superannuation rules.
